Minor in Cultural Heritage and Memory<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Many students in Anthropology are interested in cultural heritage, museums, and how people make sense of <\/span>and recall the past. The Minor in Cultural Heritage and Memory<\/strong> is designed for students who are interested in <\/span>the ways the past is remembered and activated in the present, sometimes as a mechanism to construct <\/span>narratives and make political or legal claims about community and\/or national identities. The Minor also <\/span>examines culturally shaped forms of remembering and commemoration.<\/span> The Minor in Cultural Heritage <\/span>and Memory is ideal for students interested in law and policy, development, museum studies, <\/span>archives, cultural preservation, material culture studies, and the arts.<\/span> The courses in the Minor will <\/span>provide training for students interested in how the past is recalled and represented as well as the ethical <\/span>dilemmas of commemoration. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Minor in Cultural Heritage & Memory consists of consists of <\/span>six courses<\/span> totaling <\/span>18 credits<\/span> : three <\/span>required courses designed to give students a foundation in anthropological approaches to the past, heritage, <\/span>commemoration, and memory and three additional electives that explore cultural diversity.\u00a0 <\/span>The Minor in Cultural Heritage and Memory can be easily combined with Majors in other departments. If <\/span>combined with a Major in Anthropology, four of the six courses (12 of the 18 credits) can overlap between the <\/span>Major and the Minor and <\/span>only 2 extra courses (6 extra credits) are required.<\/span><\/p>\n
