Post Master’s Advanced Certificate Literacy Education (Birth - Grade 6)

This program will not be accepting applicants for the 2023-2024 academic year while we develop a new program to align with recent changes in New York State requirements for certification in Literacy. A revised program leading to the new Literacy (All Grades) certificate is expected to be offered for the 2024-2025 academic year. Please check back in the spring of 2024 for more information.
This 15 credit post-master’s advanced certificate program leads to the New York State certificate in Literacy (Birth-Grade 6). Students in this program take coursework that prepares them to understand the language and literacy needs of diverse learners, plan specialized and individualized literacy instruction, engage critically with current issues in the field of literacy education, and support other teachers and professionals in the improvement of literacy instruction in schools. The program is completed in one year and includes a semester-long literacy practicum with children.
