His doctoral training was academically rigorous, featuring a specialized minor in applied statistics and research methods. During this time, he worked as a Research Associate at the UNC Active Schools Institute, where he gained specialized, practical experience in promoting health in K-12 school environments. Prior to his doctoral work, he earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a pedagogy concentration and a master’s degree in education focused on instructional technology from the California State University system.

Research Focus and Innovation

Dr. Ha is an interdisciplinary researcher committed to advancing physical activity and health among children and adolescents through a comprehensive, whole-of-school approach. His research centers on exploring innovative ways to integrate technology into K-12 settings to enhance the delivery and promotion of physical activity. This work involves designing, developing, and implementing technology-infused interventions that create movement opportunities across the entire school day—not just in physical education classes, but also in classrooms, during recess, and through after-school programs. A key pillar of his work is the development and delivery of physical activity leadership training programs for a diverse group of professionals, including school staff, community leaders, and pre-service teachers. This effort focuses on building capacity within schools to foster and sustain an active school culture.

Recent Grant Activities

Ha, T. (PI).
