The Queens College Health Professions Advisory Services Office (HPAS) provides advice to students who plan to apply to one of the following health professional schools: medicine<\/strong>, dentistry<\/strong>, optometry<\/strong>, pharmacy, podiatry<\/strong>, veterinary<\/strong>\u00a0medicine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The role of the advisor is to assist the student in preparation for the application process and to work with the student; providing suggestions and information so that when applying, the student has a positive outcome \u2013 accepted to the institution applied.<\/p>\n Many of these professional schools prefer a Queens College Application Committee Letter<\/strong>. \u00a0With frequent student meetings between Advisor and student, the Health Advisor is better able to write a student Application Committee Letter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Students are encouraged to meet with an advisor even if the the student will not submit a Committee Letter <\/strong>with the application.<\/p>\n To become a practitioner in any health profession, a student usually completes pre-professional studies at a four-year college or university, and then applies for admission to an accredited professional school.\u00a0\u00a0The HPAS advisor\u2019s role is to work with the student while the student completes classes, and to suggest activities which will enhance the student’s application.<\/p>\n The health careers listed above currently require that a student demonstrate a strong academic foundation, have a baccalaureate degree, and show competitive proficiency on a standard test as the minimum prerequisites for admission.
