Queens College is using Interfolio for the following processes<\/p>\n

    This website provides instructions for each of these processes. Instructions for faculty, P&B members, chairs, deans, and the provost can be found under each of the headings in the navigation menu above. The processes for reappointments, reviews, tenure and promotion are very similar and therefore are presented together in the tutorial. For more information on the differences in the cases, see the types of cases below.<\/p>\n

    Types of Cases<\/h3>\n

    Annual Reappointments and Third Year Reviews<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Faculty in all academic titles\u00a0without<\/strong> permanent employment status need to be reappointed on an annual basis. This includes faculty in all professorial titles, lecturers, and CLTs.<\/p>\n

      \n
    • For professorial faculty and CLTs, the first reappointment happens in the spring (with a notification deadline of April 1), and all subsequent reappointments happen in the fall (with a notification deadline of December 1). Professorial faculty have an additional Review in the spring of their third year of employment.<\/li>\n
    • For lecturers, the first reappointment happens in the spring of their second year of employment, and all subsequent reappointments happen in the fall. There is no reappointment in the first year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Notification of relevant deadlines for submitting materials comes from the Dean to the chairs and individual faculty members.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      Tenure, Promotion, CCE, and Reclassifications<\/strong><\/p>\n

      CUNY faculty in all academic titles are eventually eligible for permanent employment status. Professorial faculty must apply for tenure in the fall of their seventh year of employment. CLTs must apply for tenure in the fall of their fifth year. Lecturers apply for a Certificate of Continuous Employment, also in fall of their fifth year.<\/p>\n

      Professorial faculty are eligible for promotion. Usually, the application for tenure and the application for promotion to Associate Professor coincide, and occur in the fall. (Only one application is required.) Promotions to Professor, along with any promotion that does not correspond to the application for tenure, are considered in the spring. For example, it is possible at CUNY for an Assistant Professor to receive tenure and not be promoted to Associate Professor. That promotion application, when it occurs, would be made in the spring.<\/p>\n

      CLTs are not eligible for promotion, but they may apply for a reclassification (to a Senior or Chief CLT). Such an application is made in the spring. If this is of interest to you, you should speak to your Chair and\/or Dean as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

      Lecturers are eligible for promotion to Senior Lecturer in the spring of their ninth year of employment. Reclassification from lecturer to a professorial title is possible but relatively unusual. If this is of interest to you, you should speak to your Chair and\/or Dean as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
