Media Studies covers all of these platforms and more, in an undergraduate program that explores media institutions, forms, contents, creative processes, and social effects. This preparation is valuable for anyone entering any profession involving the exchange of information.<\/p>\n<p>The department\u2019s world-renowned professors are experts in disciplines such as film and television studies, advertising and marketing, international communications, and the media arts. Media Studies majors get to create individualized programs in consultation with faculty mentors. Media Technologies from Gutenberg to the Internet<\/li>\n<li>MEDST 101. Contemporary Media<\/li>\n<li>MEDST 201W (formerly\u00a0300W).\u00a0Media Criticism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Media Arts \/ Creative Production Course: <\/strong>At least one creative media production course, selected from the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>MEDST 241 (Multimedia)<\/li>\n<li>242 (Studio Television)<\/li>\n<li>243 (Intro to Filmmaking)<\/li>\n<li>245 (Screenwriting)<\/li>\n<li>246 (Art of Adaptation)<\/li>\n<li>247 (Intro to Post-Production)<\/li>\n<li>248 (Experimental Media &amp; Drawing)<\/li>\n<li>266 (Podcasting)<\/li>\n<li>310 (Documentary)<\/li>\n<li>313 (Creative Sound)<\/li>\n<li>314 (Directing)<\/li>\n<li>317 (Advanced Post-Production)<\/li>\n<li>318 (Cinematography)<\/li>\n<li>361 (Interactive Storytelling)\n<ul>\n<li>Note: The one course used to fulfill the creative production requirement cannot be simultaneously counted toward the Advanced Media Studies or Elective requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Advanced Media Studies and Writing-Intensive Courses:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Three additional courses at the 300 level, at least two of which must be designated as writing intensive (W)\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Note: MEDST 392 Internship credits can only be counted as electives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Elective Courses:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Five additional Media Studies courses, at any level.\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Note: Up to three credits of MEDST 392 Internship can be counted toward the elective requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Appropriate prerequisites will always be enforced.<\/p>\n<p>The Media Studies major requires a minimum of 36 credits. A minimum grade of C is required in order for a course to count toward the major.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*<\/strong><em>As of Fall 2022, MEDST 200 has been removed as a core course, and replaced with a creative production requirement. Students who declared a Media Studies major PRIOR to June 1, 2022 have two options for the major:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>If you have completed MEDST 200 with a C or higher: MEDST 200 will count toward your Media Studies core requirement based on the previous guidelines. You are not required to take a creative production course.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>If you have NOT completed MEDST 200: you should follow the NEW guidelines for the major, taking an eligible creative production class. The Film Studies major and minor are composed of film courses offered by a number of departments in the Divisions of the Arts and Humanities and the Social Sciences.
