As you make your way through the major, you will gain experience and understanding of the way advertising shapes and reflects our world. Projects are designed to increase your portfolio and prepare you for the industry. We have found over time that classes are not offered consistently, so we needed to provide other alternatives.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What electives can I take?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>You can take any class (200-level or above) that is related to advertising. For example, Economics now offers BUS 243 \u2014 Marketing, and will be offering it every semester. Other departments sometimes offer classes in consumer behavior or design classes for advertising.\u00a0<strong>BE AWARE:<\/strong>\u00a0These classes are likely to have prerequisites, so plan accordingly, and no, we cannot waive prerequisites from other departments.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>NOTE: THESE CLASSES MUST BE APPROVED AHEAD OF TIME BY THE ADVERTISING DIRECTOR<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>I registered for a class after I got it approved, and it\u2019s still not showing up on DegreeWorks. Why not?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>DegreeWorks only recognizes classes that have been approved by the State as electives. Instead, it is designated as a 281 (or 381) course. This is why you will see several courses with the same number almost every semester.<\/p>\n<p>These classes are known as VT, or variable topics, classes, and they can be taken more than once because the class is not the same each time.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>How do I learn about what electives are going to be offered in the upcoming semester?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Attend the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>mandatory<\/strong><\/span> meeting.
