Dr. Claudia Cal\u00ec is Assistant Professor of Music Education at Queens College. Prior to her appointment as a tenure track Professor, Dr. Cal\u00ec was a Substitute Assistant Professor at Queens College; she has also been on the faculty of Long Island University, the Juilliard School, New York University, the University of New Haven, Brooklyn College and Teachers College Columbia University. A native of Italy, Dr. Cal\u00ec holds a Degree in Piano Performance, and two Masters from the University of Perugia and the Catholic University of Milan. She earned a Doctorate in Music and Music Education from Teachers College Columbia University. Along with an intense performing activity in chamber ensembles both in Italy and the US, she devotes time and energies to teaching and researching young children and their spontaneous musicality. She has published in a variety of international academic journals, such as the\u00a0<\/span>International Journal of Community Music<\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>Qualitative Research in Music Education,\u00a0<\/em>the<\/span>\u00a0International Journal of Music in Early Childhood,\u00a0<\/em>the\u00a0<\/span>Journal of Popular Music Education<\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>Research Studies in Music Education\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<\/span>Arts Education Policy Review<\/em>. Her research also brings attention to families and to the influences that music has on parent-child relationships, with a particular interest for immigrant families and children.
