General Information about the IRB<\/span><\/p>\n See the CUNY Researcher Handbook<\/a> for information, policies, and guidance related to conducting research. See Chapter 5 of the CUNY Researcher Handbook and the CUNY Research Compliance site<\/a> for information, policies, procedures, and guidance specifically related to research compliance.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The CUNY Human Research Protection Program (HRPP)<\/strong> is responsible for the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects in research projects conducted at CUNY or by CUNY faculty, staff and students and Research Foundation CUNY staff. All research activities involving human subjects must be reviewed and approved by the CUNY HRPP or CUNY University Integrated-Institutional Review Board (CUNY UI-IRB) prior to implementation.\u00a0 The information below will provide Queens College researchers with the information needed to access CUNY policies and procedures, as well as the tools to submit a complete IRB application. All CUNY’s institutional policies concerning HRPP issues are located at https:\/\/www.cuny.edu\/research\/research-compliance\/human-research-protection-program\/hrpp-policies-procedures\/.<\/a><\/p>\n Toward the end of the above page, you will find template for consent forms, assent forms and other materials that may be of use as you develop your IRB application.<\/span><\/p>\n How to Apply<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n IRBManager<\/a> will remain available to access current active protocols in the coming months, using your <\/span>CUNYfirst<\/em> credentials<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Throughout the months of July and August, CUNY will be transitioning from IRB Manager to Cayuse Human Ethics (cuny.cayuse.com)<\/p>\n To\u00a0facilitate\u00a0the ongoing work of legacy data migration,\u00a0access to Cayuse Human Ethics will initially require that CUNY researchers request access.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Researchers\u00a0who need to\u00a0submit\u00a0to the IRB\u00a0can\u00a0request access to Cayuse Human Ethics to\u00a0submit\u00a0a\u00a0time-sensitive\u00a01)\u00a0new IRB application; or 2)\u00a0modification, renewal, or other submission for a migrated project.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n The Access Request\u00a0review\u00a0process will include\u00a0confirming\u00a0the status of legacy migration for relevant projects. Please allow time for this process, which we\u00a0anticipate\u00a0could take 2 to 3 business days<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Use the <\/b><\/span>Cayuse Access Request Form<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0initiate\u00a0a\u00a0request for\u00a0access to Cayuse Human Ethics\u00a0to\u00a0submit\u00a0an initial application or a modification or other submission for a migrated project. \u00a0<\/b><\/span>\u00a0Each member of your team who can submit protocols on your behalf or need to read a protocol should also fill out this form.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n <\/span><\/p>\n If you need to modify a protocol but see that it\u2019s empty except for the basic info section, reach out to me directly and I will upload it within a couple of hours and let you know it\u2019s ready for accept a modification. \u00a0Please don\u2019t review your protocols in the new system until you need to modify a study. \u00a0For obvious reasons, we don\u2019t want to be handling a lot of ALL requests for access and new modifications all at once. \u00a0The system is CUNY wide. \u00a0We\u2019re requesting PIs to not try to do anything in Cayuse HE until there\u2019s a new project to submit or necessary modifications needing approval. \u00a0I can provide assistance at each stage of the access, modification and submission process. \u00a0I\u2019m happy to schedule Zoom meetings as necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n Finally, please be patient while awaiting approval notices. \u00a0The system is new to everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n If you are unsure whether your project requires CUNY UI-IRB or HRPP review, please read the document When is CUNY HRPP or IRB Review Required?<\/em><\/a> For further assistance in determining whether an activity constitutes human subjects research requiring review by the HRPP\/IRB,\u00a0 contact Paul Kran, Director<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n First time CITI users should access the CITI website at www.citiprogram.org<\/a>. Logging into the CITI system via SSO one time should correct this issue.\u00a0 You may log right off without doing any additional training and that should correct the issue.<\/strong><\/p>\n All CUNY faculty members, postdoctoral scholars, graduate and undergraduate students involved in human subjects research as key personnel must complete the Basic Course in the protection of human subjects prior to Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval of their protocol.
