All research activities involving human subjects must be reviewed and approved by the CUNY HRPP or CUNY University Integrated-Institutional Review Board (CUNY UI-IRB) prior to implementation.\u00a0 The information below will provide Queens College researchers with the information needed to access CUNY policies and procedures, as well as the tools to submit a complete IRB application. All CUNY&#8217;s institutional policies concerning HRPP issues are located at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cuny.edu\/research\/research-compliance\/human-research-protection-program\/hrpp-policies-procedures\/\">https:\/\/www.cuny.edu\/research\/research-compliance\/human-research-protection-program\/hrpp-policies-procedures\/.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Toward the end of the above page, you will find template for consent forms, assent forms and other materials that may be of use as you develop your IRB application.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #e71939;font-family: Ubuntu, Helvetica, Arial, Lucida, sans-serif;font-size: 22px\">How to Apply<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px\"><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cuny.my.irbmanager.com\/\" style=\"font-size: 16px\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cuny.my.irbmanager.com\/\" style=\"font-size: 16px\">IRBManager<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 16px\"> will remain available to access current active protocols in the coming months, using your <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 16px\">CUNYfirst<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 16px\"> credentials<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_4 et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p>Throughout the months of July and August, CUNY will be transitioning from IRB Manager to Cayuse Human Ethics (cuny.cayuse.com)<\/p>\n<ul data-editing-info=\"{&quot;applyListStyleFromLevel&quot;:true,&quot;unorderedStyleType&quot;:1}\">\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><span>By now you have received several emails from Lynda Mules, University Director of Research Integrity and Compliance concerning the transition to <\/span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/cuny.cayuse.com\/\" title=\"http:\/\/cuny.cayuse.com\/\" data-outlook-id=\"f8d9abc9-d4ec-494c-9c8e-a370c8cf7f00\">Cayuse Human Ethics<\/a><\/span><span>, which commenced on. 8\/3. \u00a0I\u2019m following up with some additional guidance for IRB submissions at QC.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p role=\"presentation\"><span>To\u00a0facilitate\u00a0the ongoing work of legacy data migration,\u00a0access to Cayuse Human Ethics will initially require that CUNY researchers request access.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p role=\"presentation\"><span>Researchers\u00a0who need to\u00a0submit\u00a0to the IRB\u00a0can\u00a0request access to Cayuse Human Ethics to\u00a0submit\u00a0a\u00a0time-sensitive\u00a01)\u00a0new IRB application; or 2)\u00a0modification, renewal, or other submission for a migrated project.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p role=\"presentation\"><span>The Access Request\u00a0review\u00a0process will include\u00a0confirming\u00a0the status of legacy migration for relevant projects. Please allow time for this process, which we\u00a0anticipate\u00a0could take <b>2 to 3 business days<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p role=\"presentation\"><span><b>Use the <\/b><\/span><span><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"ad331265-1996-421e-861d-08cc605c349d\"><b>Cayuse Access Request Form<\/b><\/a><\/span><span><b>\u00a0to\u00a0initiate\u00a0a\u00a0request for\u00a0access to Cayuse Human Ethics\u00a0to\u00a0submit\u00a0an initial application or a modification or other submission for a migrated project. \u00a0<\/b><\/span><span><b>\u00a0Each member of your team who can submit protocols on your behalf or need to read a protocol should also fill out this form.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><span>Once you log <\/span><span>into Cayuse, select Human Ethics from the Product menu on the top right. \u00a0The new submission button is immediately below that menu. \u00a0Use this to start a new protocol.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><span>Active protocols can be accessed\u00a0 by clicking on \u201cStudies\u201d near the tip left of the screen.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The migration of studies is ongoing and should be complete by the end of the month. \u00a0Protocols that have been successfully migrated will have at least 1 attachment containing the entire PDF file from Manager. \u00a0Funded projects and expedited\/full committee reviews will have individual fields filled out and attachments such as consent forms attached to those sections of the protocol.<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">If you need to modify a protocol but see that it\u2019s empty except for the basic info section, reach out to me directly and I will upload it within a couple of hours and let you know it\u2019s ready for accept a modification. \u00a0Please don\u2019t review your protocols in the new system until you need to modify a study. \u00a0For obvious reasons, we don\u2019t want to be handling a lot of ALL requests for access and new modifications all at once. \u00a0The system is CUNY wide. \u00a0We\u2019re requesting PIs to not try to do anything in Cayuse HE until there\u2019s a new project to submit or necessary modifications needing approval. \u00a0I can provide assistance at each stage of the access, modification and submission process. \u00a0I\u2019m happy to schedule Zoom meetings as necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Finally, please be patient while awaiting approval notices. protocol.<\/li>\n<li>A list of Informed Consent templates are available in the <em>Informed Consent<\/em> section of the CUNY HRPP website.\u00a0Please use these templates when developing your informed consent process and creating consent documents.<\/li>\n<li>A note about the annual check in: The main thing we look for when reviewing the Annual Check in to ensure all active staff are up to date on their trainings.\u00a0 Therefore, we advise removing inactive staff and adding additional staff be done via an amendment to the protocol prior to submitting the annual report Logging into the CITI system via SSO one time should correct this issue.\u00a0 You may log right off without doing any additional training and that should correct the issue.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Human Subjects Protection Basic Course<\/h3>\n<p>All CUNY faculty members, postdoctoral scholars, graduate and undergraduate students involved in human subjects research as key personnel must complete the Basic Course in the protection of human subjects prior to Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval of their protocol.
