The Legal Studies Minor<\/a>\u00a0provides students with the skills to evaluate\u00a0<\/span>public policy\u00a0<\/span>in the context of\u00a0<\/span>court decisions.\u00a0<\/span>By focusing o<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0the essential elements\u00a0<\/span>of the\u00a0<\/span>law provided in\u00a0<\/span>core\u00a0<\/span>courses\u00a0<\/span>and electives, <\/span>such as the\u00a0<\/span>Rule of Law, Legal Reasoning, and\u00a0<\/span>Legal Writing, students<\/span>\u00a0expand their ability to\u00a0<\/span>understand and evaluate\u00a0<\/span>political decisions from a legal perspective.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n In addition, the Minor in Legal Studies sharpens <\/span>students<\/span> reasoning\u00a0<\/span>abilities<\/span>, while it allows them to explore the importance and application of the Rule of Law<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and exposes<\/span>\u00a0them<\/span> to the way legal<\/span> documents are constructed. This minor<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>introduces students in a deep and meaningful way to the <\/span>fundamental\u00a0<\/span>concepts and terminology\u00a0<\/span>often<\/span>\u00a0encounter<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>l<\/span>aw school\u00a0<\/span>coursework\u00a0<\/span>and in the public\u00a0<\/span>policy-making<\/span>\u00a0process<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n T<\/span>he Minor in Legal Studies requires students to enroll in <\/span>\u00a0three political science <\/span>courses<\/span>\u00a0(9 credits)<\/span>:<\/span><\/span> American Government (PSCI 100)<\/span><\/span>, <\/span>Judicial Process (PSCI 280), and <\/span><\/span>Legal Reasoning\u00a0<\/span>(PSCI 290.1). In addition, students must choose three electives (9 credits) from other departments. The list of acceptable courses can be found<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n The minor can easily be added to a major in political science because the three required courses (PSCI100, PSCI280 and PSCI290) can be counted toward both the Legal Studies Minor and the Political Science Major.
