Research Description<\/h4>\n
My research has focused on late-life depression, particularly the relationships among cerebrovascular disease, executive dysfunction, antidepressant treatment response, and computerized cognitive training.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

My current focus is on pedagogy and the integration of evolutionary psychology, psychoanalysis, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), interests I explore in my courses on Evolutionary Psychology (PSYCH 337), Psychodynamic Theory (PSYCH 341), and Contemporary Psychotherapies (PSYCH 360). Building on my earlier work on personality disorders and personality development across adulthood, I am interested in how these different perspectives can be integrated to better understand personality, psychological distress, and change.<\/p>\n

A particular focus of my current work is Freud’s place in 21st-century psychology. Although Freud has been increasingly sidelined in undergraduate psychology, psychoanalytic ideas remain embedded in both contemporary psychology and the broader cultural vernacular. My current projects examine undergraduate students’ perceptions of Freud, how Freud and psychoanalysis are portrayed in psychology textbooks, and how psychoanalytic thought can be taught critically and accurately to a new generation of students.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
