The SLC offers collaborative services to support students holistically, utilizing a full array of available technologies and resources. Students have access to STEM-specific orientations, tutoring, workshops, discussion groups, and specialists who help get them connected to resources on campus and elsewhere. The Learning Commons (LC) offers this support to help students achieve their academic goals along with self-advocacy and independent, life-long learning. Academic coaches focus on helping the student with study skills applicable to a variety of subjects and strategies that allow the student to be successful in college, in their workplace and in life in general. Students who request a weekly appointment can terminate their appointment at any time during the semester, once they feel they have been helped. However, the assessments done on the impact of academic coaching on the students\u2019 academic performance show that a minimum of three consecutive sessions are needed for students to see the impact of coaching.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Who are the coaches? &#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Our coaches are high-achieving current students and recent graduates. The coach and the student mutually decide on the goals of the session. The term is typically used in the context of education policy or curriculum choices in schools.<\/p>\n<p>As society innovates and technology advances, the need for professionals who understand how these technologies work and who can propose practical solutions continues to grow. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) calls STEM careers &#8220;tomorrow&#8217;s jobs,&#8221; emphasizing the importance of these unique industries.<br \/>Today, STEM jobs are in high demand, and many are projected to stay in demand for several years. At the same time, STEM professionals are in short supply, which is why so many colleges \u2014 as well as the U.S. government \u2014 are imploring students to study STEM.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.4&#8243;
