(Queens College \u201974)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;on&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Orthopedic Surgeon<\/strong><\/span><br \/> <strong> Newport Orthopedic Institute<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Beyer earned his Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Biology from Queens College (\u201974) and his Medical Degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine.\u00a0 His residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York was followed by a sports medicine fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles.\u00a0 He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery of the knee, and total knee replacement.\u00a0 He is currently involved in cartilage restoration procedures, early intervention, and minimally-invasive surgery for osteoarthritis of the knee. Dr. Beyer is the Executive Medical Director of Hoag Orthopedic Center, on staff at Newport Orthopedic Institute and the current chairman and team physician for the Newport Beach Breakers.\u00a0 He is the author of numerous papers, has presented at multiple conferences on sports medicine and joint replacement and is known for his volunteerism.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Eric Block, Ph.D. (Queens College \u201962)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Carla Rizzo Delray Distinguished Professor<\/strong><\/span><br \/> <strong> Department of Chemistry, SUNY at Albany<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Block earned a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Chemistry from Queens College (\u201962) and his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University (UK) and the Weizmann Institute (Israel).\u00a0 Dr. Block served as an advisor to the Administration of Queens College in the review of the Queens College Chemistry Department that ultimately led to the construction of the new addition to Remsen Hall.\u00a0 He is the author of more than 235 publications, has seven patents, and is author or editor of four books.\u00a0 Dr. Block\u2019s current research deals with olfaction &#8211; the sense of smell.\u00a0 He is an expert on the chemistry of genus Allium plans (garlic, onions, etc.) for which work he received a Guggenheim Fellowship and several national and international awards.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Samuel J. Daniel, M.D., F.A.C.P., FA.C.G. (Queens College \u201974)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Clinical Professor of Medicine, Columbia University<\/strong><\/span><br \/> <strong> Attending Gastroenterologist, St. Luke\u2019s \/Roosevelt Hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Daniel earned his Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Chemistry from Queens College (\u201974) and his Medical Degree from Columbia University College of Physicians &amp; Surgeons.\u00a0 He completed his Internship, Residency and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at St. Luke\u2019s Roosevelt Hospital.\u00a0 During a long career at North General Hospital\/Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Daniel served as an administrator, clinical professor, and practicing physician.\u00a0 He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American College of Physicians, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the American Gastroenterology Association.\u00a0 Dr. Daniel is the well-respected recipient of numerous awards and holds (or has held) many distinguished board memberships; his area of interest in medical research is the treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C and he was Principal Investigator in several clinical trials studying the disease.\u00a0 Dr. Daniel is the co-author of <em>Hepatitis C: The Black Person\u2019s Guide.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;David F. Fenster, P.G. (Queens College \u201875)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Engineering Geology Supervisor<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong> Bechtel Power Corporation<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>David Fenster graduated from City College\/CUNY with a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in History and from the University of Illinois with a Master\u2019s Degree in History.\u00a0 His Master\u2019s Degree in Geology was earned at Queens College (\u201975). Mr. Fenster has presented numerous papers at sectional meetings of the Geological Society of America and annual meetings of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) for which he serves as Chairman of several Committees on a volunteer basis.\u00a0 He has worked for many years as a consulting geologist before joining Bechtel Power Corporation.\u00a0 His current projects are related to characterizing and licensing sites for the new generation of commercial nuclear power plants.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Barry Gotlinksy, Ph.D. (Queens College &#8217;78)&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Vice President of the Scientific and Laboratory Services (SLS)<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong> Pall Corporation<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gotlinsky received a combined BA\/MA in Chemistry from Queens College (\u201978) and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the CUNY Graduate Center.\u00a0 He has been involved with contamination control in the semiconductor industry for more than 25 years, publishing numerous papers and presentations.\u00a0 He is an active contributor to organizations that drive the establishment and promotion of industry standards.\u00a0 The global SLS group provides technical solutions for application sand processes across Pall\u2019s industrial markets.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Michael Gottlieb, Ph.D. (Queens College \u201965)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Deputy Director of Science<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong> Foundation for the National Institutes of Health<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gottlieb received his B.A. in Biology from Queens College (\u201965) and his Ph.D. in Biology from the City University of New York.\u00a0 He conducted post-doctoral research in Bacterial Physiology at Harvard Medical School and Parasitic Diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health.\u00a0 He has served as a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, Chief of the Parasitology and International Programs Branch at NIAID, and Coordinator of the Institute\u2019s International Centers for Tropical Disease Research network.\u00a0 Following his retirement from government service, Dr. Gottlieb joined the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health where he is currently the Deputy Director.\u00a0 He serves as program officer for awards under the Grand Challenges in Global Health and VCTR initiatives supported by the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation.\u00a0 He continues his research as Co-Principal Investigator on the interaction of malnutrition and enteric diseases and their impact on the health and development of young children in the developing world.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;George Gubernikoff, M.D. (Queens College \u201977)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Attending Cardiologist<\/strong><\/span><br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong> Director, Clinical Cardiac Services<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong> Medical Director, Center for Aortic Diseases Winthrop University Hospital<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Dr. George Gubernikoff graduated from Queens College in June 1977 with a degree in Sociology and has been contributing an award to the department every year and is a graduate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has completed training in Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. He is presently an Attending Cardiologist at Winthrop University Hospital, and Director of the Cardiology Consult Service and Medical Director of the Aortic Disease Program. Dr. Gubernikoff is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at State University of New York, Stony Brook. His clinical interests include valvular heart disease, aortic diseases, coronary artery disease, and management of the high-risk perioperative cardiovascular patient.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Philip T. Harte, P.G. Harte is a Research Hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey NH\/VT Water Science Center.\u00a0 He has a Bachelor\u2019s in Geology from Queens College (\u201982), a Master\u2019s in Hydrology from University of New Hampshire, and has taken advanced Hydrology courses at several other Universities.\u00a0 Phil has over 25 years of experience in studying groundwater contaminant transport with emphasis on the remediation of recalcitrant anthropogenic compounds.\u00a0 He has worked on groundwater studies along the East Coast of the U.S., Texas, and Afghanistan.\u00a0 Author of over 40 papers, he also holds a patent on a unique groundwater sampling tool.\u00a0 He is active in several professional organizations and has participated on several technical advisory panels for superfund sites in the U.S.\u00a0 In addition to his U.S. Geological Survey career, he has worked as a U.S. Naval Reservist on several environmental projects in the United States and abroad, and received the U.S. Naval Reserve outstanding achievement award.\u00a0 Civic duties have included an assignment as the chairman of the Pembroke, New Hampshire Conservation Committee along with many youth coaching duties.\u00a0 He particularly enjoys coaching football and designing various defensive schemes for his teams.\u00a0 Phil is an active water enthusiast, boater, and fisherman.\u00a0 A native of Queens N.Y., he resides with his family in New Hampshire.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Charles H. Hennekens, M.D., Dr.P.H. Schmidt College of Medicine<\/strong><br \/><strong> Florida Atlantic University<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hennekens earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Queens College (\u201963), his M.D from Cornell University and his Doctorate in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.\u00a0 In addition to his Research Professorship at Florida Atlantic University, he is also a Clinical Professor of Preventive Medicine at Nova Southeastern University and a Voluntary Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.\u00a0 He was the first John Snow Professor, first Eugene Braunwald Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and the first Chief of Preventive Medicine at Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital in Boston.\u00a0 He was the first to demonstrate that aspirin prevents a first myocardial infarction and prevents myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death when given during acute myocardial infarction as well as survivors of an occlusive vascular event.\u00a0 From 1995-2005 Dr. Hennekens was the third most widely cited medical researcher internationally and five of the top twenty were his former fellows and\/or trainees.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Gary Hirshfield, M.D. (Queens College \u201982)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opthalmologist\/Founder<\/strong><br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong> Hirshfield Eye Associates<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hirshfield graduated from Queens College (\u201982) with a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Chemistry, earned his M.D. from Yale Medical School, and did his residency in ophthalmology at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital.\u00a0 He reviews peer reviewed literature for publication in journals and is currently on the Board of the New York State Ophthalmologic Society.\u00a0 He has participated in developing board examinations and review questions for the American Academy of Ophthalmology board exam review course.\u00a0 He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is board certified in ophthalmology and holds a lifetime certificate.\u00a0 Dr. Hirshfield has spent two years as a resident instructor teaching the new generation of ophthalmologists and teaching is still a big part of his schedule.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Madeline J. Long, Ed.D. &#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Long graduated from Queens College with a joint major in Education and English.\u00a0 She received a Master\u2019s Degree from Harvard and her Doctorate from Columbia University\u2019s Teacher\u2019s College.\u00a0 She is a consultant to Auburn University\u2019s School of Science and Mathematics and a frequent panelist for the National Science Foundation.\u00a0 She recently concluded a five-year position as the Executive Director of the Mathematics and Science Partnership in New York City.\u00a0 She has worked extensively in the field of Mathematics and Science Education at the Education and Human Resource Directorate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Urban Systemic Initiatives (USI), and National Science Foundation.\u00a0 At the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University, Dr. Long created relationships between the Education and Arts and Science faculties and created programs in mathematics, science, philosophy, bilingual education and school psychology.\u00a0 She speaks at national and international conferences, has numerous publications and has served as a consultant to school districts and universities.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Allan Z. Moskowitz, Ph.D. (Queens College \u201965)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>President and CEO<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong> Moskowitz Jacobs Inc.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Moskowitz is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Queens College (\u201965) with Bachelor\u2019s Degrees in Mathematics and Psychology.\u00a0 He earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Harvard University.\u00a0 He is both a well-known experimental psychologist in the field of psychophysics and an inventor of world-class market research technology.\u00a0 Dr. Moskowitz, the recipient of numerous awards, is widely-published in the scientific press and internationally-known as a leading thinker and creator of advanced research technology in the area of new product and concept development.\u00a0 He lectures in the United States and abroad, serves on the editorial boards of major journals, and speaks extensively at both scientific and market research conferences.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Jose Murga (Queens College \u201998)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Retired, International Atomic Energy Agency<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong>United Nations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Nardi majored in Biology\/Chemistry during his early years at Queens College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics (\u201961).\u00a0 He went on to earn a Master of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.\u00a0 Mr. Nardi has been affiliated with Microwave Development Labs, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the US Department of Energy in addition to the International Atomic Energy Agency.\u00a0 He worked with the research and design of large-scale computer systems responsible for the processing of high energy particle experiments, transmittals of large data volumes, accounting and control of nuclear materials in the civilian sector, and inspection of nuclear facilities to determine that nuclear material was not diverted into non-peaceful uses.\u00a0 On the occasion of the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005,\u00a0 Mr. Nardi was given a certificate in recognition of his contributions to the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Kenneth Pickar, Ph.D. (Queens College \u201961)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Visiting Professor of Mechanical Engineering<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong> California Institute of Technology<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Pickar graduated from Queens College (\u201961) with a dual major in Physics and Math and earned the Ph.D. degree in Low Temperature Physics at the University of Pennsylvania.\u00a0 He has had affiliations with Bell Laboratories, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, GE Corporate Research and Development, AlliedSignal Corporation (now Honeywell).\u00a0 He worked in the areas of Electron Beam Technology, and did research on semiconductor materials, large medical imaging systems such as MRI and digital X-ray, lighting, radar and aerospace technology.\u00a0 Dr. Pickar has served on a number of University Advisory Committees including Stanford, Berkeley, Cornell and Illinois.\u00a0 He was on the Board of Directors of Semiconductor Research Corporation and a Director of the Albany Medical Center.\u00a0 He is presently on the Boards of the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank and the South Coast Botanical Garden.\u00a0 He also currently teaches Entrepreneurship, the Engineering Design of Products for the Developing World and the Management of Technology.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Philip Schaenman (Queens College \u201961)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>President and Founder<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong> TriData<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Schaenman earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Queens College (\u201961), a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Columbia, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Professional Degree of Electrical Engineer from Columbia University.\u00a0 Mr. Schaenman began his career as an engineer on the manned space program and in corporate performance measures for the Bell System.\u00a0 At the Urban Institute he developed effectiveness measures of local government services including fire protection and was Associate Administrator of the U.S. Fire Administration in FEMA.\u00a0 TriData specializes in research and consulting on public safety issues including fire, police, emergency medical services and emergency management.\u00a0 Mr. Schaenman is an internationally-known expert in fire prevention, public safety education, fire department analyses, and performance measurement.\u00a0 He has led over fifty investigations of major emergencies including the Virginia Tech shootings and the World Trade Center bombing.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Penny Stern, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACOEM (Queens College \u201977)&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.15&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Director of Preventive Medicine<\/strong><\/span><br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong> Department of Population Health<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong> North Shore-LIJ Health System<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Stern earned her BA in history (summa cum laude) from Queens College (\u201977).\u00a0 She received an MD (with distinction in research) from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an MPH at the Columbia (now Mailman) School of Public Health.\u00a0 She is also an Assistant Professor in the newly-established Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, a Clinical Assistant in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Mount Sinai and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Public Health at the Weill-Cornell Medical College Department of Public Health.\u00a0 Dr. Stern is a Fellow of both the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and is also New York State-certified in medical acupuncture.\u00a0 She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society.\u00a0 Dr. Stern has been affiliated with Pfizer and the WTC Medical Monitoring and Treatment Program at Mt. Sinai and is an experienced medical journalist and editor, having worked at Lifetime Medical Television, Medical News Network and ReutersHealth.com.\u00a0 Her most recent project was as editor of <em>JFK: History Maker &#8211; A Fifty Year Retrospective<\/em>, published this year.\u00a0 Dr. Stern\u2019s fields of expertise in the occupational health setting include safety and environmental health; medical surveillance; disability management;
