Irish Studies
The aim of Irish Studies is to lead students to understand the historical and cultural development of the Irish people, including their language, literature, and social institutions; the significance of their intellectual, spiritual, and artistic contributions to Western civilization; and their experience as one of the first postcolonial nations and as an emigrant diaspora.
Graduates may pursue careers in a wide variety of cultural areas, including libraries, museums, historic preservation, music and the arts, and education. Their training in one of the world’s great literatures also offers them important skills and knowledge for work as writers and editors. Students are well prepared for graduate work here and abroad.
