Rubric for Evaluating Online Instruction<\/h1>\n

If you are looking to evaluate your own hybrid or online course, or if you are asked to observe a hybrid or online course being taught by a colleague, try using a rubric for online instruction.<\/p>\n

One rubric we strongly recommend was developed by\u00a0California State University, Chico<\/a>. It specifies six categories\u00a0for\u00a0a course with online components:<\/p>\n

  1. Learner support and resources:<\/strong>\u00a0does the course link to campus resources and provide information on being an online learner?<\/li>\n
  2. Online organization and design:<\/strong>\u00a0is the course well organized and easy to navigate?<\/li>\n
  3. Instructional design and delivery:<\/strong>\u00a0does the course clearly link course goals and objectives, does it provide opportunities for students to interact, does it offer multiple activities?<\/li>\n
  4. Assessment and evaluation of student learning:<\/strong>\u00a0are\u00a0the assessments clearly linked to learning objectives?<\/li>\n
  5. Innovative teaching with technology:<\/strong>\u00a0does the course use varied and effective technologies to facilitate communication and learning?<\/li>\n
  6. Faculty use of student feedback:<\/strong>\u00a0does the\u00a0instructor offer\u00a0students the opportunity to provide feedback?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
