Robert Twible Named Interim Director of Athletics at Queens College

-- An Alum and Twenty-Year College Employee, Twible Has Overseen Facility Renovations that Generated Over $1 Million Annually; Will Manage the College’s Many Athletic Programs --

Queens, N.Y., February 1, 2018—Queens College has announced that Robert (Rob) Twible ’97 will serve as interim director of athletics. Now in his twentieth year at Queens College, Twible has most recently been serving as the associate athletics director for facilities and operations. He will be replacing China Jude, former assistant vice president and director of athletics for the past seven years, who has joined the University of Wyoming in Laramie. A national search will be conducted by the College for the permanent post.

Twible’s main roles include overseeing the daily responsibilities for many of the college’s athletic programs, including men’s and women’s tennis, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming, softball, baseball and women’s lacrosse. He is also the athletic department’s liaison for campus facilities, campus security and building and grounds, and has an integral role in the hiring of staff members for the Knights. Queens College is the only Division II school in the City University of New York. In addition, Twible oversees the recreation department, tennis center, and facility rentals while also serving as the East Coast Conference’s sports chairperson for tennis.

“We are fortunate to have had two such committed staff members working so closely with and inspiring our talented and hard-working student-athletes. Rob’s record of advocating for them and our program makes him an excellent choice to serve as Interim Director of Athletics,” said President Félix V. Matos Rodríguez.

Under Twible’s custodianship, Queens College has undergone significant facility renovations that have generated over $1 million annually for the institution. The most dramatic improvements have been made to FitzGerald Gymnasium, where each gymnasium has been upgraded with new flooring, spectator bleachers, and scoreboards. The indoor bubble of the QC Tennis Center has also been remodeled with new lighting and court renovations following the
devastation caused by the tornado that struck the campus in 2010.

“Choosing Rob to take on the interim athletic director role was an easy decision. Rob’s dedication to and support of our student athletes, as well as his commitment to Queens College, ensure that the department is in very good hands,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Adam Rockman.

Twible is also overseeing the renovations of the locker rooms and aquatic facilities. New projects that he is spearheading for the future include a renovation of the school's outdoor track facility and an upgrade for the soccer fields to replace the grass fields with an artificial turf surface. To this date, Twible has overseen over ten million dollars’ worth of athletic facility upgrades.

“I want to thank Dr. Rockman and the administration for this great opportunity. I look forward to building on our successes and helping with the transition for the permanent athletic director,” said Twible.

Rob Twible is an East Meadow resident. As a QC student, he was a member of the men’s basketball team, coming to Flushing following a two-year stint at Nassau Community College. There, Twible was a key player in helping the Lions win a regular-season NJCAA Region XV title under head coach Stu Klein. He received an associate’s degree in business administration from Nassau before earning a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Queens College.

About the Queens College Athletics Program
The Queens College Athletics Program offers an integrated curriculum to foster students’ physical and cognitive abilities. It presents students with an opportunity to participate in and enjoy varsity as well as intramural and recreational athletics, encouraging every student-athlete to complete a meaningful academic degree program, participate fully in the college community and prepare for life after college athletics. Athletics is an integral part of the college’s educational program and strives to provide equitable opportunities (as defined under Title IX and Office of Civil Rights guidelines) for all students to engage in intercollegiate athletics as a means of satisfying the need for sport participation, according to principles of fair play and amateurism as defined by the NCAA. In addition, Athletics provides opportunities for non-players to assist in organizing and conducting intercollegiate events; provides a means for students, faculty and members of the community to develop closer ties and identification with the college; and develops and maintains favorable athletic relations between Queens College and other colleges and universities.
