These are instructions for locating an item you have discovered through\u00a0OneSearch<\/a>.<\/p>\n First, make sure that you are on the correct floor. In the catalog record, look in the\u00a0Location<\/em>\u00a0column. It may say:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”#FFFFFF” custom_padding=”||||true|true” border_color_all=”#A9A9A9″ global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n * You must ask for assistance at the 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0floor Borrowing Desk to access items on Reserve or Media.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n This tells you on what floor (level) the item can be found. For instance, if a book is in the stacks, you would want to check\u00a0level 4<\/em>\u00a0if its call number begins with a letter prior to\u00a0L<\/em>\u00a0in the alphabet, and\u00a0level 5<\/em>\u00a0if its call number begins with\u00a0P<\/em>\u00a0or a later letter.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”#FFFFFF” custom_padding=”||||true|true” border_color_all=”#A9A9A9″ global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference materials on all topics can be found on\u00a0<\/span>Level 3<\/em>. Journals, newspapers, and magazines are stored on\u00a0<\/span>Level 1<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>and circulating books can be found on\u00a0<\/span>Levels 4 and 5<\/em>, with the first half of the alphabet (A-L) on Level 4 and the remainder (P-Z) on Level 5. Materials relating to music and art are located in the\u00a0<\/span>Music Library<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and the\u00a0<\/span>Arts, Design & Media Studies<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n Most books in the library are organized according to the Library of Congress Classification scheme. This system is a standard shared by many academic libraries throughout the United States. Below is a list of popular topics and their place in the classification scheme.
