May is both Asian\/Pacific American Heritage Month<\/a> and Jewish American Heritage Month<\/a>. Professors Q. Joan Xu<\/a> and Izabella Taler<\/a>, our expert subject librarians in these areas, are kicking off this series with featured ebooks and other resources from their Research Guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asian\/Pacific American and Jewish American <\/strong>Heritage Month<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Asian\/Pacific American Heritage Month was first declared in 1978. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants (https:\/\/asianpacificheritage.gov\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jewish American Heritage Month\u2019s history is more recent, as it was declared by President George W. Bush in 2006<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jewish Review of Books<\/a> includes much more than just reviews. It also offers articles about \u201creligion, literature, culture, and politics, as well as fiction, poetry, and the arts.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
