Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Joe Sanchez is a Co-PI on the Make STEAM Q project.<\/p>\n “Being a maker gives you control over technology. We consume so much that unless we make time for it, we rarely get a chance to create our own inventions. It’s important to know that you can make things and that learning how to use simple tools can give you a new creative outlet.”<\/p>\n Joe enjoys being creative with his use of materials he finds around his home. Often his projects begin with a new need at home, like needing a hook to hang a plant, and not wanting to go out and purchase one. Currently, he is working on making a cigar box guitar. “I’m using simple pieces like bolts, screws, guitar strings, and a cigar box. When I first started it was an easy build but after I made the first version I decided to add a pickup so that I could plug it into an amplifier.”<\/p>\n
