He served as department chair from 2017 to 2019, and since 2019, he has been the dean of faculty for the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. As dean, he oversaw all personnel, financial, curricular, and administrative activities for the school, which consists of eight departments. He is also the dean of research, overseeing the Offices of Research and Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Compliance and serving as the liaison between the college and the University Office of Research. He is a faculty member in both the Biochemistry and the Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology CUNY Doctoral Programs. \u00a0<\/p>\n Before coming to Queens College, Dan was an assistant and then associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Systems Therapeutics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He received a BS in biology from Yale University and a PhD in molecular cell biology from Rockefeller University. His research has long been centered in developmental biology; much of his group\u2019s work has focused on the specification and differentiation of the primary germ layers during early vertebrate embryogenesis.
