{"id":4203,"date":"2021-05-21T14:00:27","date_gmt":"2021-05-21T18:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/149.4.100.129\/provost\/?page_id=4203"},"modified":"2025-04-08T14:32:43","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T18:32:43","slug":"guidelines-for-scheduling-courses","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.qc.cuny.edu\/provost\/guidelines-for-scheduling-courses\/","title":{"rendered":"Guidelines for Scheduling Courses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#FFFFFF&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text ol_item_indent=&#8221;20px&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_font=&#8221;Open Sans||||||||&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;16px&#8221; header_4_font=&#8221;Open Sans|600|||on||||&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h4>Guidelines for Scheduling Courses<\/h4>\n<p>Office of the Provost, Queens College<\/p>\n<p>The guidelines below describe good practices in designating rooms, schedules, and mode of instruction for courses.\u00a0 Following these guidelines will ensure a schedule that uses available classroom space efficiently and that facilitates program completion for students.<\/p>\n<p>Time slots in assigned rooms that are not scheduled by departments revert to the Registrar after schedules are submitted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rooms:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Departments and programs must schedule classes in the rooms assigned to them.<\/li>\n<li>Do not schedule TBAs.\u00a0 If for some reason it is necessary to schedule a section without an associated room, please submit a request to coursescheduling@qc.cuny.edu.\n<ul>\n<li>Please bear in mind that TBA requests need to be flexible in course times; if space can&#8217;t be found at the time requested, another time and the available space will be suggested.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For classes that meet in internal department space, departments should indicate which space is being used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All courses must follow the scheduling matrix.<\/li>\n<li>Departments should balance offerings, by:\n<ul>\n<li>scheduling courses both early (including offerings at 8:00 AM and 9:25 AM) and late in the day,<\/li>\n<li>scheduling three hour evening classes with equal numbers of early and late sections (for example, the number of sections starting at 7:10 should be the same as the number starting at 4:30), and<\/li>\n<li>balancing three hour sections on M T W or Th with another three hour course (for example, a Monday morning 9:00 AM -12:00 PM class should be balanced by a Wednesday morning 9:00 AM -12:00 PM class).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Departments offering courses which satisfy General Education requirements (English 110 and other Pathways courses, writing-intensive courses) should schedule these courses throughout the day and week so that students with time constraints will be able to complete their programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mode of Instruction &#8211; CUNY Definitions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qc.cuny.edu\/provost\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2023\/01\/Modes-of-Instruction-CUNY-Definitions.pdf\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15692\">Modes of Instruction-CUNY Definitions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guidelines for Scheduling Courses Office of the Provost, Queens College The guidelines below describe good practices in designating rooms, schedules, and mode of instruction for courses.\u00a0 Following these guidelines will ensure a schedule that uses available classroom space efficiently and that facilitates program completion for students.
