Associate Provost for Innovation and Student Success<\/h3>\n

Dr. Ahmad Sims is the new Associate Provost for Innovation and Student Success.\u00a0 He is a proven higher education leader, dedicated to advancing student success, institutional effectiveness, and equitable access to educational opportunity. With extensive experience in student retention, student engagement, academic\/student affairs, and academic support services, he has built a career focused on designing systems that improve student persistence and completion. His leadership approach emphasizes empathy, proactive engagement, data-informed decision making, and cross-divisional collaboration to ensure institutions are responsive to the evolving needs of their students.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Throughout his 19-year career in higher education, Dr. Ahmad Sims has worked to create student-ready institutions and remove barriers that affect student progression and to build coordinated support structures that promote belonging, academic achievement, and career readiness. While working at Weber State University and at Christian Brothers University as the dean of student success, Dr. Ahmad Sims led strategic initiatives that integrate advising, career development, and student support services to strengthen the student experience from enrollment through graduation. As the director of advisement and student transitions at Tennessee State University and the director of academic advising at Western Kentucky University, Dr. Ahmad Sims successfully created a comprehensive advising model that led to increased engagement and student retention.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Dr. Ahmad Sims earned an EdD in Leadership Higher Education and a Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) from Northcentral University. He holds a Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Florida Atlantic University. His current research topic focuses around the use of cognitive and non-cognitive factors that impact student retention. He regularly contributes to external professional conversations on student success strategies, advising innovation, and leadership development in higher education and is currently on the Board of Directors for NACADA (National Association of Academic Advising), the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Education Advisory Board, the Inclusion and Engagement Committee, and has just been name to the ACPA (College Student Educators International) Equity & Inclusion Council.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As the new Associate Provost for Innovation and Student Success, Dr. Ahmad Sims provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for five integrated centers of excellence that drive student achievement and equity at Queens College: transfer programming, including the Transfer Hub and partnerships across CUNY; Honors and Scholarships, encompassing the Macaulay Honors College, Kessler Presidential Scholars, and merit-based and need-based scholarship programs; advising, including the Academic Advising Center and faculty engagement in student guidance; career planning, which integrates career services, pre-law and pre-health advising, experiential education, and internship programs; and academic support, including the Learning Commons, Writing Center, First-Year Experience, and other retention-focused initiatives. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external partners, the associate provost ensures that student support services are effective, data-informed, assessment focused, equity-minded, and aligned both with institutional priorities and national best practices.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In his spare time, Dr. Ahmad Sims enjoys visiting museums, cultural and nature areas, zoos, traveling, and talking to his grand-daughter, Aubrey.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Melissa Faulkner<\/h2>\n

Executive Director for Student Success and Career Outcomes<\/h3>\n

Melissa comes to Queens College from New Jersey City University where she served as director of Career and Professional Development.<\/p>\n

She has previously been director of the Center for Career Education at Bloomfield College. At Montclair State University she served as director of the Center of Career Services and director of Cooperative Education and Internships, Center for Career Services. She has also been director of Career Development at Felician University; a career counselor and first year advisor at Monmouth University; and director for Career Planning and Study Abroad at Cedar Crest College. Melissa is also past president of the New Jersey Association of Colleges and Employers and co-founder and past president of the New Jersey Career Center Consortium.<\/p>\n

A strategic, equity-driven higher education leader, Melissa has more than 25 years of experience advancing student retention, graduation, and career outcomes through innovative programs that integrate academic learning, experiential education, and employer partnerships. She has a proven track record of leading cross-campus collaborations, managing grant-funded initiatives, and leveraging data to design scalable solutions that serve diverse, first-generation, and underrepresented students.<\/p>\n

Melissa holds an MA from the School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University, where she also received a BA in Anthropology. She is on track to receive an MBA in Organizational Leadership and Management from New Jersey City University in December 2027.<\/p>\n

Sayashmini Madhow<\/h2>\n

Administrative Coordinator | Office of the Associate Provost for Innovation and Student Success<\/h3>\n

Sayashmini Madhow graduated from Queens College, City University of New York in May of 2015, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Environmental Science with a minor in Business and Liberal Arts. Following her undergraduate studies she joined the Experiential Education Team at Queens College, and served as a Coordinator for several experiential learning programs for two years. Currently, she is the Administrative Coordinator and assistant to the Associate Provost for Innovation and Student Success under the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic affairs.<\/p>\n

As a proud alumnus of Queens College and the Percy Ellis Sutton SEEK Program, Sayashmini has been incredibly humbled by the opportunity to work for an institution that gave her the chance to attain a college degree. In 2019, she earned a Master of Science in Business Management and Leadership from CUNY School of Professional Studies and intends to continue her academic journey by completing a Ph.D in Global Leadership or Organizational Change and Leadership.<\/p>\n

Sayashmini is skilled in administration, project management, student development, college access, civic engagement, community outreach, and team development. She is a team player and has an affinity for creating a harmonious, fun working environment which is productive and efficient. Sayashmini has great appreciation for giving back to the community and enjoys volunteering. She considers herself an advocate for mental health and suicide prevention. She loves experiencing new cultures and spends all of her free time traveling to new countries.<\/p>\n
