The 2012 Conference - "Korean American Experiences: History and Contemporary Trends"

The Research Center for Korean Community at Queens College is pleased to announce its Third Annual Gala and Conference. The gala benefit reception dinner will take place at Dae Dong Manor Korean Restaurant in Flushing on Friday, November 16, 2012. The conference will take place the following day, Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the Campbell Dome at Queens College. The theme of this year's conference is the history and contemporary trends of Korean American experiences. There will be ten presenters at the conference, including five recipients of our Center's dissertation scholarships from 2011 and 2012, three staff members of our Center, and two local Korean American scholars.
Topics at the conference will include the career paths of American-born second-generation children of Korean immigrants, inequality and social mobility among Korean Americans, the importance of social capital, the relationship between Korean merchants and their Latino employees, national and cultural identity issues involving Korean adoptees, the achievements of Korean students in science classes, K-Town NYC as an emerging immigrant enclave, and a few other detailed studies of Korean American experiences.
