		A. David Baker Organic Chemistry Remsen, Room 117F Phone: 718-997-4219 arthur.baker@qc.cuny.edu I was active for many years (1960 - 1980) in ultraviolet and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. This work resulted in the publication of numerous papers in journals. In addition I co-authored two books, wrote chapters, review articles, and with my graduate students wrote the "Fundamental Review Feature" on these techniques for Analytical Chemistry during the period 1976-1980. More recently I have become interested in the chemistry of organic nitrogen compounds - nitrones, imines, N-oxides, pyridines and related heterocycles. One area of interest is the use of polypyridines and phenanthroline derivatives as ligands in metal complexes that can interact selectively with DNA. This work has resulted in several publications, is ongoing, and has expanded to include novel synthetic routes to various types of nitrogen-containing heterocycles. More recently we have embarked on the synthesis and study of quaternized quinolines as inhibitors of protein kinase C, with a view to developing new therapeutic agents.
