Hybrid Bootcamp, Summer 2011: Call for Participants

The Center for Teaching & Learning is pleased to invite Queens College faculty to participate in a summer bootcamp focusing on the development of hybrid courses. Faculty from all academic disciplines are invited to apply, by completing this form:

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 1. (Selected participants will be notified by June 3.)

No experience teaching online is necessary, but participants must commit to teaching one course as a hybrid (at least 50% online) during the 2011-2012 academic year.  The summer-long training will orient participants to online pedagogies, through both face-to-face and online synchronous and asynchronous work.  

Required summer activities include:

  • a face-to-face session on June 24 (10am to 6pm), to be held at Queens College;

  • asynchronous activities through July and August: approximately 4 assignments (some of them collaborative) and independent work on the course or courses to be redesigned --- all due dates will be announced in June;

  • a face-to-face session on August 25 (10am to 6pm), to be held at Queens College.

Bootcamp participants will:

  • have access to sustained technological support and pedagogical advice from the Center for Teaching & Learning;
  • contribute to the College's ongoing development of measurable student learning outcomes;

  • get to learn some of the latest Internet-based tools used in teaching online;

  • learn to develop documentation for demonstrating online teaching effectiveness, useful for reappointment/tenure/promotion;

  • receive a $2,000 stipend (please see constraints on eligibility in note 2, below). 


  1. Space is limited.  If we receive more applicants than we are able to accommodate, selection criteria will include applicants' experience with Internet-based technologies and online pedagogies as well as projected impact of the course or courses that will be hybridized.
  2. Faculty who are on adjunct lines and will be teaching three 3-credit courses during the coming fall and spring semesters, and faculty who participated in our June 2010 or January 2011 bootcamps are not eligible to receive a stipend but are welcome to participate. 
  3. All faculty participants will need to provide sign-off from their department chair, including the chair's commitment to offering in hybrid form the course or courses that will be developed.
