Access to classrooms around campus is sometimes restricted, for security reasons. When a classroom is locked, there are two ways for faculty to gain access:
Get a key. Some locked rooms require you to obtain a physical key to access the door.
To get a key, contact your department secretary, who will help you fill out and submit the necessary forms.
If you need immediate access, call the Office of Public Safety (718-997-4443).
Use your QCard. A number of rooms in Kiely and Powdermaker (see tables below) have been equipped with card readers (see image), which control the locking mechanisms on the doors.
To use the card reader, simply place your QCard on the device. The light will change to green when the door is unlocked, and to red when it’s locked.
If you’re authorized to use a card-reader classroom, but your card isn’t working, contact the locksmith, Reuben Borrero (718-997-4451), who will check your authorization (and fix it, if necessary) or will determine whether the door access system is working.
If you don’t have a QCard, go to the QCard Office (One Stop, Dining Hall) or contact Mustafizur Rahman (718-997-4451).
Need More Information?
If you need to know what classrooms you are scheduled to teach in for the semester, log into CUNYfirst, click on Self Service and browse to the Faculty Center. The “my schedule” tab shows your courses and lists their designated locations. You may find it more convenient to check the Course Information System website (“Schedule” page), which doesn’t require login.
If you are not assigned a room, contact Joyce Kong, Registrar’s Office (718-997-4436).
