ADVANCE PAYMENT OF FEDERAL PELL GRANT AND SEOG
Since Federal Pell Grant and SEOG awards for the fall semester are not paid until October and spring awards are not paid until March, the Office of Financial Aid schedules an advance payment of Pell for eligible students at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. These advance payments are intended to give you a portion of your award at the beginning of the semester to help purchase books and supplies.
For the Spring 2011 term, Pell Grant- or SEOG-eligible students will be sent an advance via their usual method of financial aid delivery (CUNY Scholar Support card, direct deposit, or physically mailed check). This delivery is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26.
This advance is excess funding after tuition and fees had been covered. If you later become ineligible for one or more financial aid awards, you may incur a tuition liability.
Residence hall students: If there is an excess Pell Grant or SEOG amount left after your tuition/fee bill is paid, you may be sent an advance as well. When selecting students for advances, any outstanding balance due to the residence hall was not taken into consideration. Pay particular attention to your residence hall billing for Spring 2011: Make sure that receiving the advance check or deposit has not left you with a liability on your residence hall bill.
As in prior semesters, it will continue to be the student's responsibility to assure that all tuition, fee, and residence hall liabilities are satisfied.
