Mission
The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College prepares students at the undergraduate and masters level to contribute to the broad field of musical art locally, nationally and internationally through a rigorous multi-faceted curriculum including a balanced immersion in performance, theory, composition, history and education. The school offers sixteen interrelated degree and non-degree programs taught by a diverse and world-class faculty.
Our mission is closely aligned to that of the College: To educate and prepare students to become leaders and contributing citizens in an increasingly challenging and complex global society. Located in one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the United States, the School of Music draws from a culturally rich population that adds to the value of a Queens College education. While preparing our students for this global society, we are also closely linked to the community we serve as evidenced by housing the Lawrence Eisman Center for Preparatory Studies in Music (serving nearly 400 children in the local community ages 3-17), and the Queens College Choral Society (made up of approximately 60 community members).
The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College offers a high quality conservatory-style education and rigorous academics at one of the lowest costs in the nation. Within the world’s largest urban university, we offer an intimate college experience with low student to teacher ratios in all of our classes.
Our program is hidden in the heart of Queens, the most diverse borough on Earth. An eighty-acre campus offers the classic college feel, yet is just a stone’s throw from the excitement of New York City. Our modern facility is equipped with ample rehearsal space, a Steinway piano in every classroom and rehearsal studio, over forty practice rooms, two recording studios, one of the most comprehensive music libraries in the NY area, and four performance spaces — including the visually and acoustically stunning LeFrak Concert Hall.
