The Queens College Office of Global Education Initiatives (OGEI) supports the college’s commitment to international education and global engagement. As part of a network of international educators on campus, OGEI focuses on faculty, students, and curriculum to construct an educational environment that prepares students to compete in a global society. Today, a rapidly changing global context requires that institutions of higher learning take on the responsibility of being at the forefront in the production of new knowledge and in the provision of an educational system that addresses the processes of global change and their implications for human lives.

To that end, OGEI leads the college's effort to internationalize the curriculum at home and expand existing Education Abroad and Student Exchange programs, internships abroad, and service learning programs abroad. We develop new Queens College faculty-led study abroad courses and semester- and year-long study abroad programs with university partners and providers. Student and faculty recruitment for our programs is a priority at high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Through existing international university partners, we strengthen course offerings and research collaborations, and build scholarships. We host visits by their faculty and administrators to campus. We also create new international partnerships along with new initiatives based on faculty connections and common curricular goals.

On campus, OGEI works with the steering committees for Queens College “Year of” programs to address international programming needs. We recruit faculty interested in teaching abroad, and coordinate with faculty in departments on campus regarding curriculum design to focus on global issues. Queens College is currently developing a strategy for comprehensive internationalization under the guidance of the American Council of Education. The college is a member of the 2014-2016 cohort of institutions participating in the program that guides universities through the process of forming an internationalization leadership team on campus, reviewing current internationalization activities to clarify institutional goals, and developing a strategic action plan based on an analysis of current activities on campus.
