Richard Adams joined Queens College as the director of the ACE program on February 20, 2007. He spent the twelve years as an instructor and academic advisor at Adelphi University. With a BA in business administration from Rutgers University and an MBA in marketing from the University of Michigan, he brings instructing experience and a strong business and marketing background to ACE.

Susan Budd received a master's degree from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. She has over 25 years experience teaching at CUNY and other colleges in the New York metropolitan area. In addition to teaching social science in the ACE program at Queens College, she has taught courses in English, philosophy, and the humanities.

Theodora Kanellopoulos is a doctoral student (ABD) in the Clinical Psychology: Neuropsychology subprogram at the City University of New York Graduate Center. She has taught a range of courses within the discipline of Psychology including, Introduction to Statistics for Behavioral Sciences, Statistics Laboratory, Experimental Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Introduction to Psychology. Ms. Kanellopoulos’ clinical interests include working with older adults with cognitive impairments. Her research interests focus on brain abnormalities related to depression and cognition in late life.

Robert Kole received his doctorate in English from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Since 1988 he has taught a wide range of literature and composition courses at Queens College, from the most remedial composition course offered for credit, to upper-level literature and graduate classes devoted to his major field: Shakespeare. As assistant editor of Language and Style, he helped prepare a collection of essays for publication, and recently began investigating the publication of that journal online. Kole also teaches technical writing. His background in composition and his former employment in computer operations on Wall Street have combined to help make him an effective instructor in the Engineering Department at Polytechnic University.

Diane Menna received a MA at City University of New York, where she has taught for over 25 years in programs at Queens College and other CUNY schools. Although nineteenth century American literature is her area of concentration, she has experience in a wide range of classes, from 100-level introductory writing courses to 200-level surveys to 300-level electives, including a popular course focusing on Whitman and Dickinson. Primarily a member of the English Department who has served on a number of committees over the years, she has also been a contributing faculty member of multiple programs at Queens College, such as ACE, Weekend College, Labor Education and Advancement Project (LEAP), American Studies, College Now and the College Preparatory Program in conjunction with Townsend Harris High School—where she often teaches the senior seminar Humanities in the Western Tradition.

Salvatore Miceli received his BA from Queens College and his MA from the University of Toronto. He did his PhD work (all but dissertation) at the Graduate Center, CUNY. Miceli began teaching courses in QC’s Philosophy department in 1977. He has also taught classes in the World Studies Program, and since 1985 has led ACE seminars (ACE 015 and 016). In addition, he regularly teaches intensive writing courses in the Honors and the Honors Experience Programs. Miceli was ACE Teacher of the Year in 1999.

John Nici holds two Master's Degrees—one in Victorian Literature and the other in Medieval Art. Since 1990, he has taught courses in the QC Art Department in subjects as diverse as the art of England, neoclassicism and romanticism, American art, and Italian renaissance art. He has also taken a leading role in the management of the Advanced Placement Art History program for the College Board and the Educational Testing Service. In addition to his publications on Delacroix and Raphael, he has written three books, the most recent called Barron's How to Prepare for the AP Art History Examination, published in 2008.

Roy Nitzberg received his PhD in music theory from the CUNY Graduate Center in 1999; the title of his dissertation was Voice Leading and Chromatic Techniques in Expositions of Selected Symphonies of Joseph Haydn, Introducing a New Theory of Chromatic Analysis. He studied Schenker analysis with Carl Schachter and Charles Burkhart and is presently coauthoring a book with QC Professor Henry Burnett titled Chromaticism and the Developmental Process. He coedited Hogaku, the journal of the Traditional Japanese Music Society, between 1984 and 1989 and was the associate director of the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music, a children's music program at Queens College, from 1987 until 1995. Nitzberg also teaches music theory, ear training, and music appreciation at Hunter College and Hofstra University, and is the senior US correspondent for LabourStart (www.labourstart.org).

Alexander Safos received his B.A. in Mathematics and M.A. in Physics, both from Queens College of C.U.N.Y. He has taught at various colleges, including Queensborough Community College, York College, John Jay College and Hunter College, and also parochial schools since his graduation in 1985. He has been teaching undergraduate mathematics at Queens College since 1994. He has had much success with his students, and has helped math-phobic students significantly, so that they both learn to appreciate mathematics and do well in his courses. In the Queens College Math Lab and privately, he has had very good results as a math and physics tutor alongside excellent Math Lab tutors. His private tutoring students range from elementary to college level. God has blessed him with a wonderful family and wonderful students every semester.

Rhoda Sirlin received her doctorate at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City. In addition to having taught introductory composition and literature courses, she has taught electives in American fiction and drama as well as Introduction to American Studies and Urban Studies Research Writing for Graduate Students. Sirlin leads a seminar every semester on How to Write an A+ Research Paper (open to all QC students), organizes trips to Broadway plays, and brings writers to the QC campus to speak to writing students; additionally, she has won two teaching awards at QC. She has published two books and articles on William Styron.

Nancy Casey has worked at Queens College's Advising Center since 2003, first handling the new student phone line, and for the past several years, serving as an academic advisor. Now she is the academic advisor for the ACE Program, and is available to ACE students in her office at Kiely Hall. When not working with ACE students, she provides academic advising to transfer students and incoming freshmen, as well as continuing students at Queens College. Casey resides in Queens County, and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Management from Fordham University.

A graduate of the Queens College ACE program, Elizabeth Hennessey completed a BA in Urban Studies in 2003 and is currently working on a master’s degree. As assistant director of admissions, she coordinates the ACE application process. She also serves as an undergraduate admissions counselor and recruiter for regular Queens College programs, and as the events coordinator for the Undergraduate Admissions office. In her prior position as executive assistant to the dean of Education at Queens, Hennessey coordinated most of that division’s events, including many art exhibits. Among her main interests are assisting others in achieving their goals, writing non-fiction life stories, singing, and creating gardens.

Celeste White has been employed at Queens College since 1995 and with the ACE Program since 2000. As administrative assistant to the director, she assists in all aspects of ACE. Serving as liaison and sometimes advisor to potential ACE candidates, she tracks the status of applications. She also handles organization of the Alpha Sigma Lambda awards, the ACE Honors and Awards ceremony, program schedules, assignment of rooms for the program, documenting and following up with other special preparation classes offered to ACE candidates.
