Undergraduate Research and Mentoring Education (UR/ME)

Program description

The Undergraduate Research and Mentoring Education (UR/ME) program at Queens College funds outstanding activities in which undergraduates and faculty collaborate in research or other scholarly or creative work. The program is funded by the Office of the Provost and managed by the Center for Teaching and Learning, in consultation with the UR/ME organizing committee. This initiative is based on a program that ran from 1994 until 2004.

 Other opportunities for undergraduate research

CUNY's Science Undergraduate Research Program is a summer research program for undergraduates interested in research careers in the sciences or engineering.

CUNY's Pipeline Program supports underrepresented CUNY undergraduates interested in pursuing advanced degrees.

The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) hosts the Registry of Undergraduate Researchers, designed to connect undergraduates with research experience and an interest in an advanced degree with graduate schools looking for well prepared student.

The National Conferences on Undergraduate Research, a national venue for undergraduate researchers to share their research and network with peers and faculty.

NSF's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program funds projects involving students, in any of the areas the NSF supports; students interested in participating in research at an REU site should contact REU sites directly.

The Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIAR) program provides grants for undergraduates to conduct research in close collaboration with faculty. Application deadlines are in March and October, annually. Sigma Xi is a scientific research society; we have a chapter at Queens College, and many of our faculty are members (the Sigma Xi contact person at Queens College is Professor George Axelrad, Chemistry).
