Hot Tips

• Catalogs & Schedules

  • Remember to select the Institution first when browsing catalogs. To view ALL sections of a course, uncheck Open Classes Only. Click the Section link to display the description,instructor mode such as online or in-person, pre-reqs, co-reqs, etc. and remaining available seats.

• Enrollment

  • Enrollment dates are student specific and may vary from other students. Note the start and end dates and TIME. For example, February 8, 2012 at 3pm. There are four ways to commence enrollment from your shopping cart:
    1. A section already in your shopping cart.
    2. Enter the unique four or five digit number Class Nbr that identifies that section.
    3. Do a Class Search.
    4. Go to your planner and follow the prompts from course to section.
    An enrollment request begins with the Submit button. Read the results of each request on the View Results page that either confirms a successful result or displays the reason that you have not been enrolled in a class.

• Log-Ins

  • Record and safely store:
    1.User ID and Password.
    To reset your password, visit Forgot your password? 2.CUNYID. This unique number identifies you. Memorize it!

• Shopping Cart

  • Once the schedule is posted, you may shortlist sections in which you hope to enroll. Placing a section in the shopping cart, does not reserve a seat in a class.

• Student Financials

  • When reviewing your account, first ask questions about your financial aid and then, if still needed, see the bursar's office.

• Transcripts

  • Unofficial transcripts are available in CUNYfirst to view, print or save in a .pdf format. Official transcripts are available through the Transcript Ordering link on the Student Center page.

• Wait List

  • If a class is full, you may be able to place yourself on a waitlist. Some departments require their permission for a student to be placed on a waitlist. Being on a wait list, does not guarantee you a place in the class. A process is run each night and if your waitlisted place becomes available you will automatically be enrolled. Your waitlisted section will automatically be swapped for a section of the same class. When you no longer want to be on a waitlist, quickly drop the waitlisted section to avoid auto-enrollments.

• Can I pay part of my bill?

  • Yes, partial payments are allowed, however it is strongly advised that you pay your bill in full by the due date. For cancellation purposes, anticipated financial aid and third party contracts are considered payments. Students who do not have payments against their accounts may be cancelled.

• Can I make a credit card payment for my tuition and fees?

  • Yes, but please keep in mind that if you choose to make a credit card payment for tuition and fees you will be charged a 2.65% convenience fee.

• Can I make an E-Check payment for tuition and fees?

  • Yes. Students who pay through electronic fund transfers will not be charged a processing fee.

• What's the URL to login to CUNYfirst?

• Can I use my personal email for CUNYfirst?

  • No. You are encouraged to register for a QC email account. Get your account.

• What are the password requirements for CUNYfirst?

  • At least 8 characters long.

  • At least 1 uppercase letter AND at least 1 numeric OR one special character.

  • Can't use last 4 previous passwords.

  • Can't be changed for 5 days after the last password change.

• What do I do if I forget my password?

  • Change your password.

• Which browser is recommended for CUNYfirst access?

  • Internet Explorer

    Mozilla Firefox

• Does CUNYfirst work on Macs?

  • Yes, but only using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.

• Is CUNYfirst available from home?

• In the class schedule, I only see three or four sections of the course I want to take; are there more available?

  • When more than three or four sections of a course are offered, you can click on the "view all sections" in the blue bar to see all offered sections.

• What if I can't find my course in the class schedule?

  • For courses such as CSCI 012, the course number must be entered as "12" or, alternatively, you can change "is exactly" to "contains" in the course number box on the class schedule search page (in which case 012 will be recognized). Some departments have courses listed under multiple headings, e.g., "Art History" and "Studio Art".
