The English Language Institute (ELI) at Queens College (QC) is a comprehensive academic program for learning English as a second language. Established in 1945, we are the oldest English language school in the City University of New York (CUNY) system and the second oldest in the entire United States. All of our faculty members possess graduate degrees in applied linguistics and/or teaching English as a second language.
If you need to learn English to carry out your study and career plans, the ELI at QC will help you. Our school provides intensive and well-rounded training in English as a second language, providing a solid foundation for success. This is confirmed by the great number of students who go on to study at CUNY and other colleges, universities, and professional schools across the United States.
We have trained more than 35,000 ESL students from 47 countries. ELI students include United Nations personnel, representatives of governments throughout the world, international business people, professionals, new and prospective citizens, and tourists.
The ELI offers two programs:
