Group of students with Len Schutzman

The next great idea in business may be incubating in a classroom, a coffee shop, or during a commute to campus. At Queens College, students with that entrepreneurial spirit—as well as local businesspeople—now have a special initiative to speed along their ideas: The Schutzman Center for Entrepreneurship, named for Len Schutzman ’67, a former economics major at QC and former senior vice president at PepsiCo. In 2005 Schutzman organized QC’s first entrepreneurship conference. Building on that effort, the Schutzman Center now offers opportunities to develop market feasibility studies, business plans, and product prototypes; to participate in joint ventures and think tanks; and to collaborate with successful entrepreneurs. At the center’s ribbon-cutting in 2008, QC President James Muyskens noted that under the mentorship of leaders from some of the nation’s finest companies, “We expect that the best business ideas of the next 10 to 20 years will be coming from Queens College.”
