Roopali Mukherjee is Associate Professor of Media Studies. She is also a faculty member in the Film Studies, Asian American Studies, and Africana Studies programs, and serves as Associate Director of Macaulay Honors College at Queens College.
Mukherjee writes about race in American public culture. She is author of The Racial Order of Things: Cultural Imaginaries of the Post-Soul Era (University of Minnesota Press, 2006) and co-editor of Commodity Activism: Cultural Resistance in Neoliberal Times (NYU Press, 2012).
Over the coming academic year, from August 2014 to August 2015, Mukherjee will be on leave (sabbatical) from Queens College, and will serve as Visiting Fellow with the Department of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London. While in London, she will be working on two projects: her next book, titled The Blacking Factory: Material Culture and Technologies of the Racial Self, and a second co-edited anthology, titled Race Post-Race: Culture, Critique, and the Color Line.
