The faculty members of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry have a strong commitment to both teaching and research, and undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to become involved in our research programs. The major in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemistry education track prepares students for graduate study in these fields, professional schools of medicine, dentistry, and other health-related professions, careers in the chemical and biotechnology industries, and secondary school teaching. The department is accredited by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society as qualified to offer professional training to chemists. Several courses offered by the department fulfill LASAR requirements. Requirements for a major in several other departments within the Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences include chemistry courses.
