Fifteen Credit Post Masters Advanced Study Certificate

The purpose of the Elementary and Early Childhood Department's fifteen credit post masters certificate program at Queens College is to create a selection of post masters certificates that consist of five courses in specific fields. These certificates are available to students who have completed their master's degree and are looking for additional courses. Completion of the five courses (15 credits) will result in a Certificate of Advanced Study in a specific field.   The specific fields are:

Child Developmental Psychology
Children's Literature
Early Childhood Education (Birth to Second Grade)
Language Minority Education
Math Education
Science Education
Social Studies Education

These fifteen credit specialty programs are designed to reflect:       
  • Changing demands for teacher certification in the New York State Education Department, and 
  • needs of students who have earned the final degree in the Elementary and Early Childhood Department (MAT or MSEd), but wish to return for further course work in a specialized area.
Admissions Requirements
  • Completed Application Form which may be obtained from Graduate Admissions, Jefferson Hall Room 105, 718-997-5200.
  • Photocopy of a diploma or transcript showing an earned masters degree
  • Photocopy of United States Teacher Certification

  • Upon acceptance, the Elementary Education department will contact you regarding course registration. 
Advisement
Professor Bisland is available after by appointment. Advisement may take place via telephone, email, or in person.

Registration for Returning Students
  • Registration forms for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters are mailed one month prior to the start of the semester.
  • Registration for the 15 credit post-masters program is not available via the Queens College registration system.
  • The department will register you for your courses when you return your registration form.
New Students
  • Deadlines:

Fall applicants - August 15
Spring applicants - January 15
Summer applicants - May 15

  • In-person registration will be held 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the semester
