SPIRITAS: Frequently Asked Questions

1. When can I start the program?

There is just one start date for the beginning program in June each year.  Applicants may start certain elements of the coursework earlier, but each cohort for the SPIRITAS program forms in June.


2. Will I be able to continue with my job?

Ans:  Essentially no. SPIRITAS is a full-time program with a lot of time being spent in schools observing and teaching. Added to that, some college classes are held during the day. Students will generally be tied up from 8 am – 5 pm weekdays.

3. How large are the stipends/grants?

Ans: :  The money available for distribution to candidates depends on grants received.  Funds available are equally divided among candidates. 

4. Do I have to attend the information session before I apply?

Yes, the information session is part of the application process and application forms will only be distributed at the information sessions. For candidates who cannot easily get to Queens College because of distance, accommodations will be made via Skype.

5. What holiday schedule does the program follow?

Ans: a) Up to the end of December in Year I, students will follow the Queens College calendar b) Starting in Year I semester II, students follow the New York City Public Schools Calendar.
