Fighting for Freedom: Crete and Kazantzakis
Conducted in English
Walk in the footsteps of the modern Greek thinker Nikos Kazantzakis in Athens and also on the Island of Crete, which was his birthplace. Tread the path of this great author who was inspired by his country and other famous writers and philosophers such as Nietzche, Bergson, the Buddha, Williams James, and Homer. During this course there will be a main focus on the way Kazantzakis was influenced by the cultural circumstances of his country and the "hierophants" who shaped his personality and worldviews.
Students will participate in a four-day excursion to the Island of Crete. This visit will offer the students a great opportunity to focus on Kazantzakis' famous work and the environment, which influenced him and his writing.
