For many college students, studying for a semester
or a year at the University of Paris is a lifelong dream. For over thirty years, the New York/Paris Exchange Program has been helping to make this dream
come true for thousands of students at Queens College and the other campuses of
program is open to undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines who
are full-time CUNY students who have already spent one semester at CUNY and have a GPA of 2.65 or better. The
program, while not limited to French majors, asks that participants have either
three college-level courses in French OR the equivalent proficiency before they
The language of instruction in most courses
taught on the program is French. For participants with the minimum French
requirements, there is the possibility of taking courses in FRENCH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE. For
those who have good reading and writing skills in French, courses
are available in literature, art history, cinema, photography, history, economics,
sociology, philosophy, political science, women's studies, the natural
sciences, and computer science.
A three-week intensive French language
course and orientation is offered by the program in September and January before the French university semesters
begin. Students are highly encouraged to take this introductory course in Paris.
receive elective credits for all the work they complete on the program.
receive help in finding two types of housing in Paris. They can be au pairs for French families, which
involves 12 to 15 hours of service to the family—usually in the form of
offering English conversation or help with English homework to the children of
such families—in exchange for room and board. Or, they can share rented
apartments in Paris with other students.
Along with the application, you must submit a $200 check made out to Queens College Foundation. This is a non-refundable application fee. Students
pay regular CUNY tuition during their semester or year abroad. They remain
eligible for TAP and PELL financial aid during this time. In addition, they
must pay their round-trip transportation, housing expenses. For students who don't become au pairs, food and housing costs are approximately $6,000 per
semester, or $12,000 per year.
