Hurricane Sandy on Oct. 29th devastated the 5 Boroughs of New York City, leaving many without the most basic necessities. Look for Project Donate bins throughout Queens College campus and please contribute to helping our community get back on its feet!
Hurricane Sandy has devastated the Tri-state area. This storm has tragically left dozens of people dead, and thousands without power or homes to return to.
Queens College is currently acting as a shelter (1 of 16 in the county of Queens) for over 500 people who were forced to evacuate their homes. Many of them, along with countless other New Yorkers, no longer have anything to go back to. Given
the magnitude of this storm, recovery will be long and difficult. However, it will become much easier if we, as a community, band together opening our hearts and our minds to help those in need.
Project Donate is a campus- wide initiative created by Queens College students, which currently aims to help Hurricane Sandy victims by collecting emergency donations of all sorts, for people of all ages in need. Project Donate set goals in August of 2012 to collect 1,000 winter coats for the LGBTQ homeless population of New York City. As of yet, we have distributed over 450 items, meeting half of our goal - we aim to serve those in need.
As the winter months approach us, Queens College students, faculty and staff can help these folks during this time by donating your gently used coats, t-shirts, blankets, pants, sweaters, and jackets as well as water and non-perishable foods in the Project Donate bins throughout QC’s campus.
