"A Collaborative Effort": author Karen Avrich on her late father, QC history professor Paul Avrich

The following piece appeared in the New York Times by Karen Avrich, the daughter of the late Queens College Distinguished Professor of History, Paul Avrich.  Paul Avrich taught at Queens from the early 1960s until his retirement at the end of the 1990s.  During that period, he established himself as a leading historian of the Soviet Union and the world's authority on the history of anarchism.  He was a  brilliant teacher who delighted his students by bringing to life the drama of history and the personality of the important players.
Paul was passionate about Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman and it was tragic that he died before completing his last major work.  That is why the History Department is so pleased that Karen has completed what became a joint labor of love.
