Federal Work-Study (FWS)
Applying for Work-Study Students who are interested in applying for Federal Work-Study (FWS) for Fall 2012-Spring 2013 can do so by completing a 2012-2013 FAFSA now and indicating an interest in Work-Study.
File early; funds are limited.
Work-Study Job Placement
If you have been awarded FWS for 2012-2013 and are interested in working in summer 2012, you must be willing to work off campus in a community service job. Contact the FWS coordinator in the Financial Aid Office for more information.
The Federal Work-Study Program will start placement for students awarded academic year 2012-2013 FWS from August 16, 2012, through August 23, 2012 (excluding the weekend). Placement will take place in Powdermaker Hall, Rms. 206/208. The appointment time is based on the first letter of your last name (see below). If you cannot make your appointed time, you may go to the Financial Aid Office (JH 202) during the first few weeks of fall classes or any time throughout the semester. THERE WILL BE NO PLACEMENT ON FRIDAYS.

The first letter of your last name determines your day for placement. There are no exceptions. If you cannot come on your assigned day, you may come to the Financial Aid Office, JH 202, when classes begin. Only students who have received a work-study award for 2012-2013 and are registered at an eligible status can participate in placement.
Eligible Students To accept the award, you must: * be a matriculated student in a degree program at Queens College, and enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) * be in good standing and making satisfactory progress toward a degree, based on guidelines for Federal Title IV student aid * not be in default of a Federal Perkins Loan or Direct Loan * not owe a refund of a Federal Pell Grant or Federal SEOG or other federal aid * meet other eligibility requirements (e.g., citizenship status, etc.)
WHEN YOU COME FOR PLACEMENT, YOU MUST FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTION AND BRING THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS WITH YOU.
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR FWS PLACEMENT
ON-CAMPUS PLACEMENT
Before you come to the Financial Aid Office for ON-CAMPUS placement, please follow these steps:
- Review Work-Study job postings (presorted in department order - you can click on column headers to change the sort order).
- Select and print the open positions that interest you.
Download, print and complete ALL of the following forms:
> Employee's Federal Withholding Form (W-4 FORM) > Employee's New York State Withholding Forms (complete one of the following) ---> Requesting withholding (IT-2104 FORM) ---> Requesting exemption from withholding (IT-2104E FORM) > Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9 FORM) > Student Checklist > Confidentiality Statement > Labor Law Form (Undergraduate) - Please complete EMPLOYEE section only > Labor Law Form (Graduate)- Please complete EMPLOYEE section only
Please make additional copies of the student checklist and confidentiality statement for your own records.
After completing the above forms, please follow this additional step:
Bring the above forms to placement. THIS STEP MUST BE DONE BEFORE YOU SEE THE DEPARTMENT SUPERVISOR.
--You will receive a job referral form. --You must also bring proof of citizenship status to submit with the I-9 form. Please check the I-9 form for acceptable documentation. Your documents cannot be expired. All the forms available above must be completed and submitted during job placement.
Pay Rate The pay rate for on-campus jobs has been increased to $9.00 an hour for undergraduate students, and $10.00 an hour for graduate students. The off-campus pay rate varies depending on the job. You are paid only for hours worked in the job in which we place you, and may not work beyond your award.

Not Awarded FWS? Students who did not receive an award but have filed the FAFSA and are interested in Federal Work-Study can check throughout the academic year for availability of funds.
