Transferring to Queens College

If you're thinking of transferring, you're not alone: today, about a third of all undergraduates start their academic career at one college and continue it at another.

Queens College welcomes inquiries from students who would like to transfer. Candidates apply to Queens College by using the CUNY Transfer Application (see Apply Now button to the right). All transcripts from all previous colleges must be submitted, as well as a high school transcript. Queens College has specific criteria for being admitted as a transfer student:

  • Fewer than 30 credits requires a 2.75 GPA for admission based on the freshman criteria
  • 29-60 credits requires at least a 2.25 GPA combined for all college transcripts
  • Students with a CUNY/SUNY AA, AS, or CUNY AAS degree are automatically admitted

All students need to be University Skills Proficient, which is done by taking:
  • A three-credit, college-level math course at a regionally accredited college and earning a grade of C or higher
  • A three-credit, college-level English course at a regionally accredited college and earning a grade of C or higher

We recommend you read this Guide for Transferring Students.

SEEK

Queens College has its divisional honors programs in the humanities, math and natural sciences, and social sciences that are available to incoming transfer students. Prospective math teachers may qualify for scholarships and other incentives through Queens College's innovative math education program, TIME 2000. Business and Liberal Arts, another Queens College initiative, familiarizes students with basic business disciplines; it's designed for top-performing underclassmen, regardless of their major.

The Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge (SEEK) program serves transfer students who were part of a HEOP, EOP, College Discovery, or similar program at other colleges. Students enrolled in community college programs must complete their associate’s degrees to continue to receive the services provided to academically underprepared and economically disadvantaged students. For more information, please contact the Queens College SEEK Office at 718-997-3100.

Scholarships

Each fall Queens College offers merit-based scholarships to full-time transfer students, with awards of 1/2 NYS tuition for two years. These awards are able to cover a significant part of the tuition for both in-state and out-of-state residents.

Basic requirements to apply for merit-based scholarships are:

  • A high school or accredited college GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • An introductory essay
  • At least one teacher recommendation

The selection process for scholarships at Queens College is very competitive, and they are awarded on the basis of  academics, motivation and presentation.
