Award-Winning Author Colum McCann in Conversation with Leonard Lopate March 6 at Queens College

– McCann Appears as Part of the College’s Famed Evening Readings Series –

FLUSHING, NY, February 22, 2012 – Queens College’s renowned Evening Readings series presents Colum McCann in conversation with WNYC radio host Leonard Lopate on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 7 pm in the Music Building.  Tickets are $20.

McCann, who will read from his work, is the award-winning author of the novels Songdogs, This Side of Brightness, Dancer, Zoli and Let the Great World Spin, as well as the collections of short stories, Fishing the Sloe-Black River and Everything in This Country Must.

McCann’s fiction has been published in 30 languages.  Let the Great World Spin, which became a best-seller on four continents, won such honors as the 2009 National Book Award in the U.S., 2010 Best Foreign Novel Award in China, and the 2011 literary award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

McCann has received abundant praise from literary critics.  The New York Times Book Review has said, “Like a great pitcher in his prime, McCann is constantly changing speeds, adopting different voices, tones and narrative styles as he shifts between story lines…surprising and deeply affecting…electric, profound…an emotional tour de force.”  The Boston Globe:  “McCann’s fiction is equal parts death and beauty, its inescapable realism uplifted by an exquisitely soulful and visual prose.”  Newsday:  “On every page, McCann’s prose flows with a lean, austere majesty…The result is a shivery, hard-earned, unforgettable beauty.”
