Jacob (Jake) L. Mackey was raised in the Hill Country west of Austin, Texas and in a tiny village in Kerala, India. During his first career retailing natural foods and fine wine, he enrolled part-time at Austin Community College. Things snowballed from there. Before joining the faculty at Queens College, he taught as a Lecturer in Stanford University’s Structured Liberal Education, a classic Great Books program.

Professor Mackey is writing a book about cognitive aspects of Roman religion. As a twenty-first century humanist, he employs consilient theories about human nature and human sociality from cognitive science, developmental psychology, and philosophy in order to interpret the ancient textual and material evidence.

Professor Mackey enjoys teaching classes and supervising projects on ancient languages, ancient literature, ancient religion, ancient history, and ancient intellectual history.
