Awards and Scholarship Committee
Since 2007 the CUNY Council on Foreign Language Study (CCFLS)
annually recognizes faculty members who have made outstanding
contributions to the foreign language field at CUNY. Outstanding
contributions may include service to the Council, publications,
presentations, excellence in teaching, leadership, dissemination of
foreign culture through the arts, etc. The CUNY Council on Foreign
Language Study Award for Contributions to the Profession is awarded to
full and part time faculty and recognizes a sustained and distinguished
record of achievement in the profession. At the last meeting of the
academic year in May, a ceremony will be held to honor the individual(s)
chosen by the CUNY Council Award and Scholarship Committee.
The selection process begins with nominations of individuals who have
provided outstanding contributions to our profession and have actively
participated as members of CCFLS for at least 3 years. Nominations are
to be made by December 20th of each year for awards
in the following spring. Nominations are made by departments that are
members of CCFLS who write a brief letter of support and forward
up-to-date curricula vitae, copies of publications, and/or evidence of
professional presentations and creative works to the CUNY Council Award
and Scholarship Committee. This committee will consist of five council
representatives from different institutions, currently
Alicia Ramos (Hunter College), Debra Popkins (Baruch College),
Liliana Soto-Fernández (John Jay), Sarah Pollack (CSI), Lorena Ellis
(QCC).
The award winner(s) will be announced in the first meeting in the
