Research Interests Professor Buell's current research project is an invited essay entitled "Oil Culture" for a special issue The Journal of American Studies on the cultural impacts of oil. This essay is part of a larger project on the relationships between energy, technology and culture. My chief concerns now are to theorize these relationships and to explore specific cultural histories of the fossil fuel era.
