The English Minor

The English minor is an attractive option for students interested in combining the study of English with a major in another field.

You may meet the requirements for graduation as an English minor by maintaining an index of 2.0 in the required and elective work in English and by completing the following 30-credit course sequence:

  • ENGL 170W, 241, 244
  • Either 242 or 243
  • Four other courses in the English Department at the 200 or 300 level.

The prerequisite for 170W is ENG 130, which you must complete before beginning the minor. You must take at least 12 credits required for the minor at Queens College.

For students who declared their minor BEFORE Summer 2014:

English Minor Program Requirements (Minor Code: 40)

1. Required credits: 12

  • ENGL 170W, 251, and 252
  • One course from ENGL 253, 254, or 255

2. Electives credits: 12

  • Four courses from the offerings of the English Department at the 200 or 300 level

Additional guidance in choosing courses within the minor can be provided by Faculty advisors. If you have not spoken to any other advisor, you can ask the Assistant or Associate Chair (in offices KP 601 and 603).
