Music Performance and Composition in Perugia

Only open to Music major students

Conducted in English

This course will consist of music performance and composition studies. Students will compose and perform original music and standard repertoire in a series of concerts in Perugia, Italy.  All students will receive individual and group instruction in composition and instrumentation. Students will explore transpositions, notation and tonal qualities of orchestral instruments, with special attention to those that are represented among the students of the class. Unlike a regular classroom course, this course will be conducted “in the field” and bring enormous practicality to bear on the experience of composing new music for ensembles of various sizes.  Students will learn to write effectively for instruments and voice, and also have experience as performers of the music composed by their colleagues. In addition to performances of original music, each student will perform at least once, and possibly twice in general repertoire they select and prepare before leaving for Italy.
